Balance and Equality
Students learned about how artist achieve balance in their art by using radial balance, asymmetrical balance and symmetrical balance. They observed a variety of paintings and sculptures and discussed that some art is balanced with equal parts which is called symmetrical. Some of the art looked balanced but did not have equal parts which we call asymmetrical balance. Students learned that the same tools artist use can be true with Math as well. There can a balance of equal parts such as 2+2 to give you the sum of 4 or you could have unequal parts such as 3+1 but still get the sum of 4. Students explored a variety of art studios by creating pieces of art that have both artistic and math balance.
